Announcements:

Elizabeth Held ‘12: we are opening dorm president nominations on Thursday. Email me (eheld@brynmawr.edu) or elections (elections@brynmawr.edu).  It will close Sunday night. You will have until Monday to accept and voting will take place on Tuesday.  We are also going to have a meet and greet with the dorm presidents in Campus Center 200 on Thursday night at 9:00pm.  I will be there if you have questions about elections.

Muna Aghaalnemer ‘13: one event on Thursday that is called “An eye on Palestine.”  It is really interesting and short!  It is a documentary made by a Jewish America and there will be a lot of good food. Also on Friday there is the last Open Mic Night event at Arncliffe at 7:00pm.

Lee McClenon ‘14 and Blair Smith ‘12: Room draw is still happening Tuesday and Wednesday.  There are quotas for each dorm to fill and so the dorms will close. These depend on how many people drew into multiple occupancy rooms.  There are a lot of openings in Erdman and Rock and so there are fewer available sophomore singles in those dorms.  Sophomores who want to live in Erdman or Rock should try and go into multiple occupancy.  If you have questions about this, please contact me, Blair, Angie Sheets, Resco or a Dorm President.

Tyler Garber ‘14: Sisterhood is having the culture show at 7:00pm on Saturday in Thomas Great Hall.  There will be an after party in the Campus Center at 10pm.

Vrinda Varia ‘13: next Sunday SGA is moved to 2:15 at 3:00 is the Student Community Forum where we will be talking about the future is SGA and where it stands today.  There will be lots of good food.  If you have any questions, email us at sga@brynmawr.edu.

Your Two Cents:

Sarah Theobald ‘12: in recent weeks I have noticed, and known that other people who have noticed that there have been a lot for violations of the posting policy. The posting policy still includes references to hall vice presidents, which we don’t have. So I am wondering if there is a way to update the posting policy and reminding clubs, the campus, and the faculty and staff about the policy.  I am wondering if anyone has suggestions or the energy to deal with this.

Aya Martin-Seaver ‘13: I agree. We have talked about this and I think it needs a revisionary eye. Not because we don’t have vice presidents anymore, but the posting policy seems out of date with what the community wants to do. Maybe we could get a couple of people together and look at the posting policy and see how people actually post and fill in the gaps, make it more organized and run a few surveys if anyone wants to do that with me, I would be willing to volunteer.

Emma Rosenblum ‘14: how about the members at large doing that?

Sarah Theobald ‘12: that sounds like a good plan.

Lee McClenon ‘14: Angie Sheets and the administration say they want this updated and want to look into a policy about the banners at the arch and how long those can stay up.  Just something to note because the administration wants it improve it.

Vrinda Varia ‘13: I am going to make a suggestion, we as an Eboard and will form a committee and will see who is interesting in having an outreach about it and we will have a conversation, and write up some revisions.  Then we will do an assembly vote and bring it to administrations. I don’t know if will have time to do this this semester, but we will look into the future about this.

We had 102 nominations from 33 people this round, which is not that many people.  In the previous round we had about 65 nominators.  So please nominate people in the fall because it is really important. Usually the more nominators, the more people accept.  We had 8 people self-nominate.  As usual, we had multiple voters.  One problem I was able to fix early on was that you were able to check multiple boxes.  That was a problem for people.  I am going to try and make the directions clearer for next time.  In the regular election, 3 people voted twice (in their own class year and in another class year), 2 people voted in the wrong class year (I moved them to their own class year), and 8 people voted for multiple candidates.  In the run-off election, 2 people voted on all four ballots, 2 people voted in the wrong class year, and 3 people voted twice.  But I go through and I check, so that is why it is not completely anonymous.  Not that many people voted overall.

  • Class of 2012 – 45 people voted
  • Class of 2013 – 85 people voted
  • Class of 2014 – 89 people voted
  • Class of 2015 – 143 people voted
  • Total – 362 people

Most of the races in this election were unopposed which affected peoples want to vote.  I will also table more next time, in the campus center and at other times.  People seem to vote with tabling so that works.  The run off was even lower, but was about the same drop off as usual between the regular election and run-off.  Not many people vote in the run off usually.   Please nominate people so we have more people run so we have more opposing races so people will vote.  Please nominate people!

Campus Center Updates:

Adelyn Kishbaugh ‘12: so the campus center, people have been wondering about that.   The project is moving forward.  Marry Beth Horvath wants me to tell you that there likely will be something in here next semester, but we are still trying to get multiple cost estimates and how to do it best.  We have donors of people who are interested in this project. We have had people come and access the space and see what would work in here. We have brought up what students might want, like the acapella mics. Because we have so many groups, maybe having a sound system for them. I don’t think this is final because we are still working out costs. Also we are trying to make sure that the equipment that we do get in here would be able to be used by students so we don’t have to keep hiring out.  If there is equipment then that might be a student job.

Sarah Theobald ‘12: what kind of equipment?

Adelyn Kishbaugh ‘12: different light and sound options.  But I know they are specifically trying to figure out a way that the equipment is accessible to be used; that is, being able to be used by students. It would be trained students, not just something that anyone could use. So hopefully there is interest for that.
