125th Celebration

Laurel Lemon: We are discussing the events we are going to have during the 125thCelebration. It is going to start with the reunion in 2010, and it ends in 2011. There are going to be major events in February, May, and the following May 2011. There is going to be global woman’s conference in September. There is also going to be a website. They are also thinking about giving away a Hepburn Award, and a M. Carey Thomas Medal, both of which are prestigious awards. What expectations do you guys have about this? The tagline for the event is Bold Vision for Women. For the world.

Shannon Ryan ’10: Simran and I are planning an event with the Class of 1960 in March.

Emma W-B ’11: I have a feeling that there is going to be a lot of money spent on this year-long celebration, and I also have a feeling that they want our idea, otherwise they’ll use their ideas, and the two don’t necessarily match up. So again, what ideas do you guys have?

Taline Cox ’10: I like the idea of speakers—do you have anyone in mind?

Laurel Lemon ’11: Well the idea behind this discussion is that we get your ideas, rather than we give ours…

Sarah Capasso ’11: I think it would be cool if we have a Champagne Brunch with Alumni

Liana Donahue ’12: I think it would be cool if we could get Drew Gilpin Faust to come.

Lee Wacker ’12: I think a Katherine Hepburn Movie Marathon could be fun.

Simran Singh ’10: I think that everybody should get a commemorative mug, or something.

Alex Ashley ’11: It might be interesting to know what students did in the first year or first ten years of Bryn Mawr.

Madeline Velturo ’11: I really enjoyed the carnival we had for the President, so something similar. A carousal or ferris wheel would be great.

Jacqueline Levin ’10: It would be great if we could put our work on display from us and from students of the past. It doesn’t need to be artwork, it could be research or a paper

Sarah Theobold ’12: Dining Services does several themed meals, and if one of those could be 125th themed.

Lee Wacker ’12: I work in Special Collections and we have a really neat collection of scrapbooks of

Shannon Ryan ’10: We want to generate things for the archives, and have lots of shared experiences for alums and students for our event in March.

Hannah Curry McDougald: It would be great to know of alumni besides for Katherine Hepburn…

Maddy Court ’13: If they haven’t been found yet, replace Rockefeller Owls, and get something for our lanterns.

Jill Settlemyer ’10: I was thinking a time capsule, and a re-enactment of the first class.

Caroline Heffernan ’10: Expanding the history of athletics Current students and alumni field hockey match, and a Frisbee fest.

Marisa Franz ’10: What about setting up some sort of academic scholarship for students with financial need?

Blair Smith ’12: I think there should be a school picture.

Eileen Down ’12: Maybe we could also do a history of all the teams at Bryn Mawr.

Pragya Krishna ’13: I think a carnival, a festival, or a ball or something.

Sarah Moser ’12: Sam Salazar and I are head of ACS and we could showcase alums in Music.

Colleen Hayley ’11: Maybe a history of the buildings and how they evolved and what sort of furniture was there.

Old Business

Caroline Heffernan ’10: So the fitness center has been successfully relocated to Rhoads. After the break you should have access to Haverford’s fitness center via OneCard. Right now they are trying to staff the front desk there as well.
